Why do conservatives constantly reference Ronald Reagan? I have wondered if leftists view the right’s fascination with Reagan the same way I view their Obama-love: unfounded, obsessive and even cult-like. However, there is no comparison. Conservatives understand, and history has proven, just how important the Reagan era was to the peace and prosperity of our country. While America had been heading in the wrong direction for decades, Reagan’s policies concerning our economy, foreign defense, reducing the size of government while strengthening individual liberties, helped to get us back on track. Time has shown that our admiration for Reagan is founded and justified – just as time will eventually show just how destructive and downright subversive Obama’s liberal policies are. Reagan knew that “Man is not free unless government is limited”. He also understood “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

Earlier this year, Forbes compiled a list of the world’s most dangerous countries. Whenever I am presented with information, my mind instantly searches for patterns/connections… what do these countries have in common? After reading the Forbes list, I was curious about common themes in countries with other undesirable qualities, like poor standards of living, low life expectancy, high illiteracy rates, least amount of freedoms, etc. One of the most comprehensive studies on international liberty is conducted by Freedom House (see 2010 map/stats/info HERE). The two most common themes of the least desirable countries stood out like sore thumbs: totalitarianism and Islam.
What is the connection between Islam and totalitarian style governments like communism? Islam is geopolitical in nature, it encompasses and controls all facets of living: politics, finance, education, media, religion, etc. Totalitarian style governments, specifically those with state atheism, attempt to do the same. They are dangerous because they see no natural boundary to their ambitions. These ideologies control and manipulate their citizens, robbing them of individual liberties, especially freedom of religion, and specifically Judeo-Christian values. By ignoring these politically incorrect patterns, we are emboldening the enemies of liberty and thereby encouraging a more dangerous world.
As government expands, liberty retracts – this is NOT a coincidence.

You are probably already familiar with what a great gun salesman Obama turned out to be – and that he was even named “Gun Salesman of the Year” by The Outdoor Wire. So what were the consequences of the “highest gun sales in our nation’s history”? While the left would have us believe that “more guns = more crime”, the facts show the opposite to be true. According to FBI crime statistics released last month, as gun sales soared in 2009, the national murder rate decreased by 8.2 percent, with big city murder rates declining by more than 12 percent per capita (as reported in America’s First Freedom). Unfortunately, these stats are not likely to reduce the amount of anti-gun rhetoric being flung from the left. Facts like these often fall on deaf ears… and there are none who are as deaf as those who do not want to hear.

Beginning this fall, seniors in the district where I teach will be able to enroll in a new course called “Bible as/in Literature and History.” Even though this elective class is voluntary, it is already causing some debate.
So… What Would the Founding Fathers Do?

It is a FACT that you will not find the words “separation of church and state” anywhere in the Constitution. The desire of our Founding Fathers was to prevent any single denomination (ie: only Catholic, only Lutheran, only Baptist, etc.) from ruling our nation – but they never intended for Christianity and Christian principles to be removed.
Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the first Founder to call for free public schools, stated: “The only foundation for a useful education is to be laid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments.”
On August 7, 1789 the U.S. Congress affirmed what became known as the “Freedom Ordinance”. It was originally enacted in 1787 under the Articles of Confederation, then again in 1789 under the Constitution, and was signed into law by President George Washington. Article III states: “Religion, morality, and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education, shall be forever encouraged.”
Exactly what type of curriculum would our Founding Fathers encourage? The first textbook ever printed in America was “The New England Primer” and it was used in our public schools for over two centuries. The book used Biblical principles, prayers and Bible verses to teach concepts like syllables and the alphabet: A – In ADAM’S Fall We sinned all; B – Heaven to find The Bible Mind; C – Christ crucify’d For sinners dy’d; etc.
John Adams stressed that Christian principles and the American civil government are tied together in an “indissoluble bond”. However, we are seeing that bond being chipped away left and right. Beginning with two court decisions in 1962 and 1963, removing prayer and Bible from public education. And how’s that working out for America? Here are some of the findings (keep in mind that the numbers were stable prior to 1962 and that these stats are per capita):
I am proud of my district – but frustrated that an elective Bible course would ever be considered controversial in the United States of America. By uprooting God from our classrooms, from our government, we are removing history, hope and truth. Our nation needs to recognize what was acknowledged by our Founding Fathers, and expressed so well by Abraham Lincoln: “The truth announced in the Holy Scripture, and proven by all history is that: Only those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord”.
